What Are Sealants?
February 11, 2018
Have you ever had a candy, pretzel, or granola bar that stayed stuck in the grooves of your teeth? Those grooves are notorious for collecting food and plaque that can cause cavities over time.
Prevention is key! Sealants are a noninvasive procedure which help “seal” the deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of the teeth and create a flatter, smoother surface on the tooth so food wont get stuck there, and cavity causing bacteria are kept out of those grooves.
- Studies on permanent 1st molars have found that compared to teeth that were not sealed, sealants were able to protect the teeth from getting cavities for up to 2 years. (Cochrane Database review, 2013)
There are no needles/shots required, its a 100% painless procedure.
Our office has BPA free sealants
